Microsoft Fabric consulting that starts with what you need
Microsoft Fabric consulting helps a company decide whether and how to use Microsoft Fabric, the analytics platform that brings data engineering, warehousing and Power BI into one service. A consultant explains the parts in plain terms, tests them on a real workload and sizes what to adopt first. Power BI Agency does this inside your own tenant, with a written scope and a weekly demo.
- Plain talk on Fabric
- One workload first
- Neutral on capacity

What is Microsoft Fabric, in plain words?
Fabric is Microsoft's platform for analytics, offered as a single cloud service. It groups several workloads under one roof. For example, there are tools for data pipelines, lakehouses, warehouses, real-time data and reporting with Power BI.
At its center sits OneLake, a shared store for the whole organization. Each workload reads and writes there in an open table format. So a table loaded once can serve an engineer, an analyst and a report.
Fabric runs on capacity that you buy or trial. Because all workloads draw on that same pool, sizing and governance matter early. That is where outside advice tends to help most. If the aim is only to move existing reports, see Power BI migration to Fabric, and for the product difference, see Power BI vs Fabric.

Fabric building blocks our consulting covers
You will not need all six on the first day, and we help you pick.
OneLake
One logical lake holds the data. Shortcuts can also point at storage you already have, so copies stay few.
Lakehouse
Files and tables live together here. Engineers then shape them with notebooks or dataflows.
Warehouse
A SQL warehouse suits teams that think in tables and T-SQL, and it stores data in the same lake.
Data Factory
Pipelines and dataflows move and shape data on a schedule, from many kinds of source.
Direct Lake
Power BI models can read lake tables directly. As a result, large data can feel quick without a full import.
Capacity and governance
Workspaces, domains and capacity settings decide who builds what, and how much compute each area may use.
Does every Power BI team need Microsoft Fabric?
No, and we say so often. A team with a few sources and modest data can do well with Power BI alone. Import models, dataflows and a gateway cover a lot of ground.
Fabric earns its place as needs grow. For example, several teams may want the same cleaned tables. Or data volumes may strain import models. Then a lakehouse or warehouse under the reports starts to make sense.
However, the step brings new skills and new costs to manage. So we look at your situation first. If a simpler setup serves you, our advice is to wait. On the other hand, a Power BI demand forecasting model that needs years of history may justify a lakehouse sooner.
When Microsoft Fabric consulting is worth having
These situations are the usual reasons for a first conversation.
- A Premium capacity is moving to Fabric
- Several teams rebuild the same tables
- Import models are near their size limits
- Azure Synapse or Data Factory needs a plan
- Leaders ask what Fabric means for them
- A trial capacity is running without a goal
How our Microsoft Fabric consulting engagement runs
We favor a small, real start over a large design on paper.
Assessment call
A free thirty minute call covers your data, your reports and what you hope Fabric will change.
Written scope
We then agree one workload to build first, and the quote fixes what it includes.
Fabric build and demo
The lakehouse or warehouse, its loads and a Power BI model take shape in your tenant, with a demo each week.
Review and roadmap
Finally, we review capacity use and hand over a short plan for the next workloads.
Microsoft Fabric consulting questions from data leaders
Is Power BI part of Microsoft Fabric?
Yes. Power BI is one of the workloads in Fabric, and it keeps working as before for reports and semantic models. Existing Pro and Premium Per User setups continue to function. However, the other Fabric workloads need a Fabric capacity. Microsoft's documentation explains the current license rules in detail.
Should we choose a lakehouse or a warehouse in Fabric?
It depends on your team's skills and your data. A warehouse suits people who work in SQL. A lakehouse suits teams that use Spark and files as well as tables. Both store data in OneLake, so they can work together. We test your case before recommending one.
How do you size a Fabric capacity?
We measure instead of guessing. First a trial or small capacity runs a real workload. Then the capacity metrics app shows how much compute it used. Because we do not resell licenses or capacity, our recommendation has no sales motive. You buy directly from Microsoft or your reseller.
Can our existing Power BI reports stay as they are?
In most cases, yes. Moving to Fabric does not force a rebuild of working reports. Still, some models may benefit from Direct Lake or a shared warehouse later. We list those candidates, and then you decide the order. Nothing changes in your tenant without your approval.
Who provides the consulting?
Power BI Agency does. We are a small team and a division of Sataware Technologies. We are independent of Microsoft, so we describe Fabric's limits as openly as its strengths. The service runs online. Call (480) 485-7373, and we reply within 2 hours.
