Power BI mobile reports built for the screen in your pocket
Power BI mobile reports are report pages arranged for a phone, so a reader can check a number without pinching and zooming. For this purpose, Power BI Desktop has a mobile layout view, and the Power BI mobile apps display the result. Power BI Agency designs those layouts inside your own tenant and tests them on real devices before handover.
- Portrait layouts that fit
- Tested on real phones
- Same model, same numbers

How do Power BI mobile reports differ from desktop pages?
A desktop page is wide, while a phone is tall and narrow. So a page made for a monitor shrinks to a strip on a phone, and the text becomes too small to read.
Mobile layout view solves that problem. The author takes visuals from the existing page and places them on a portrait canvas. Because both views use the same visuals and the same model, the numbers always match.
The mobile apps then pick the right view. When a mobile layout exists, a phone held upright shows it. Otherwise the app falls back to the standard page, which is rarely pleasant to use.

What goes into a phone-ready Power BI report
A mobile view is more than a rearranged page, and these parts make the difference.
Fewer visuals
A phone view keeps the three or four items that matter most, since long scrolling loses readers.
Larger touch targets
Slicers and buttons need room for a thumb. Therefore we favor simple lists over tiny controls.
Mobile formatting
Text size and legend position can differ in the mobile layout, so each visual reads well when small.
Clear order
The headline card sits on top, then the trend, then the breakdown, in the order people ask.
Alerts
Data alerts on dashboard tiles can notify a reader when a value crosses a limit they set.
App navigation
A published app groups the pages, so a reader finds them again without searching.
Who benefits most from mobile reporting in Power BI?
People who work away from a desk gain the most. For example, a regional manager walks stores, and a site lead spends the day on a project. Such readers still need today's figures, but they will not open a laptop to get them.
Executives also read on phones, often between meetings. A short mobile view gives them the state of the business in a minute. As a result, questions arrive earlier in the day.
However, not every report deserves a phone version. Deep analysis with many filters belongs on a large screen. We say which pages to adapt and which to leave alone. For example, a Power BI sales leaderboard works well on a phone, because it is one short ranked list.
Checks we run on Power BI mobile reports before release
Each mobile view passes these six checks on real phones first.
- Text is readable without zooming
- Every slicer works with one thumb
- The top card shows the key number
- Pages load quickly on a cell network
- Totals match the desktop view
- Access rules apply on the phone too
How we deliver Power BI mobile reports
The work moves through four stages, each one short.
Pick the pages
First we agree which pages people open on the move, because those are the ones worth adapting.
Design the mobile layout
We then arrange each page in mobile layout view and adjust formatting for a small screen.
Test on devices
Your team opens the mobile reports on their own phones, and we fix what feels awkward.
Publish and explain
Finally, we publish the app and show readers how to find it and set favorites.
Common questions on mobile reporting with Power BI
Do Power BI mobile reports need a separate dataset?
No. The mobile layout is a second view of the same report page, so it reads the same semantic model. Because nothing is duplicated, a change to a measure shows up on both views at once. That is one reason we prefer mobile layouts over a separate phone-only report file.
Which devices can open mobile reports in Power BI?
Microsoft publishes Power BI mobile apps for iOS and Android devices. The apps are free to install, but readers still need a suitable license to view shared content. Since supported versions change over time, we check the current Microsoft documentation during the project instead of relying on an old list.
Is data on a phone as secure as on a desktop?
The same sign-in and the same row-level security rules apply, so a reader sees only their own slice on any device. Your administrators can also add device policies through your Microsoft tenant. We do not set those policies ourselves, but we explain how the report side fits with them.
Can you add mobile layouts to reports you did not build?
Yes. First we review the existing pages, because a crowded page rarely adapts well. Sometimes we suggest a small cleanup before the mobile work starts. The quote then lists each page in scope, so the effort is clear, and everything stays in your own tenant.
