Power BI testing services that catch errors before leaders do
Power BI testing services check that a report shows correct numbers, respects access rules, refreshes on time and loads quickly. Few teams test reports the way they test software, so mistakes often surface in a board meeting. One of our consultants writes test cases for your measures and roles, runs them inside your tenant and explains each failure in plain words.
- Totals matched to source
- Security roles verified
- Speed measured per visual

What do Power BI testing services check?
A report can fail in four ways. The number can be wrong. Sometimes the wrong person can see it. Also, the data can be stale. Or the page can take so long that nobody waits. Each failure needs its own kind of test.
For numbers, we compare measures with the source system for the same period. For access, we view the report as each security role and confirm the rows. Then we read the refresh history and look for failures or long runs.
Speed gets a separate look. Power BI Desktop includes a performance analyzer that times each visual and its query. So we record those timings and point to the visuals that slow a page down. After that, a fix is usually a modeling change, not new hardware.

Six tests every important report deserves
We run the tests that fit your risk, because a small team report needs less than a board pack.
Reconciliation test
Key totals must match the source system. When they differ, we trace the gap to a filter, a join or a rule.
Measure logic test
Each DAX measure runs against known cases, such as an empty month or a returned order.
Row-level security test
We open the report as each role. Then we confirm that a user sees only the permitted rows.
Refresh test
A full refresh runs on the real schedule, so we learn how long it takes and whether the gateway holds.
Performance test
Performance analyzer times every visual. As a result, slow queries get a name and a cause.
Usability check
Someone outside the project tries to answer three questions with the report. Their stumbles show what to fix.
Why do reports need testing at all?
A chart looks finished long before it is correct. For example, a total can double because a relationship points the wrong way. The visual still renders, and nothing warns the author. So errors hide in plain sight.
Trust is the real cost. After leaders catch one bad number, they doubt every report from the same team. Then people return to spreadsheets, and the investment stalls. A short test cycle before release prevents that loss.
Change brings risk too. A new column or a renamed table can break a measure in a report nobody opened that week. Therefore we also set up a small regression set. Your team reruns it after each change, and problems appear before users find them. For example, the tests compare a Power BI sales commission dashboard with the payroll export line by line.
When to book Power BI testing services
These six moments carry the most risk, so a test beforehand is cheap insurance.
- Before a report goes to the board
- After a migration from another tool
- When a source system changes
- Before security rules go live
- When users report slow pages
- After the original author leaves
How our Power BI testing services run
The process has four stages, and findings reach you at a weekly demo instead of at the end.
Free assessment
First you show us the reports that worry you. The call takes thirty minutes and costs nothing.
Test plan
Then we write the cases with your subject experts. The quote lists the reports and the test types in scope.
Power BI test run
We execute each case inside your tenant and log the result. Because evidence matters, screenshots go with every failure.
Findings and retest
Finally you receive a ranked list. After your team or ours fixes the issues, we run the cases again.
Testing Power BI reports: practical questions
Do Power BI testing services include fixing the problems?
They can. The base service finds and explains each issue. If you want, we can also fix the model or the measures, and the quote lists that as a separate line. Others pass the findings to their own analysts. Either way, we retest afterwards, so you know the fix worked.
How do you test row-level security in Power BI?
Power BI lets an author view a report as a chosen role or user. We use that feature for every role. We also test with real accounts in the service, since group membership can behave differently there. Each role gets a short record that shows which rows appeared.
Can Power BI testing run again after each change?
Yes. We leave a regression set that your team can repeat. It holds the key totals and the expected values for fixed periods. For teams with deployment pipelines, the set fits the test stage well. So a change reaches production only after the numbers still match.
Do you need our source system for Power BI testing?
We need a trusted figure to compare with. Often that is a standard report from the source system, which a subject expert exports for us. Direct access also works, but it is not required. Because all checks happen in your tenant, we do not copy data to our own systems.
Who performs the Power BI testing?
Our consultants perform it. Power BI Agency is a division of Sataware Technologies, a small team and independent of Microsoft. A person who did not build the report tests it, which is the whole point. We work online and answer within 2 hours.
