Ad spend reporting

Power BI Google Ads integration for spend you can reconcile

Power BI Google Ads integration brings campaign cost, clicks and conversions into the same model as sales. Microsoft's Power Query connector list does not include a Google Ads connector today. So the data arrives another way. For example, Google can transfer ad data into BigQuery, which Power BI reads through a documented connector. Otherwise, the API or scheduled exports can fill a staging table.

  • BigQuery transfer route
  • API and export options
  • Spend tied to revenue

How does Power BI Google Ads integration get its data?

We start by being plain about the gap. There is no Google Ads entry in Microsoft's connector reference. Therefore any setup relies on a layer in between, and the choice of layer shapes cost and upkeep.

The BigQuery route suits many teams. Google offers a data transfer that lands Google Ads reports in BigQuery on a schedule. Then Power BI connects with the Google BigQuery connector, which Microsoft does document.

The API route gives more control. However, the Google Ads API needs a developer token and OAuth sign-in, so it is real development work. A scheduled export to a sheet or a file is the lightest option, but it is also the easiest to break.

Ways to bring Google Ads data into a model

Each option trades effort against control, so we lay them side by side.

Why do ad numbers rarely match the ad platform?

Conversions keep changing after the click. A sale may count days later, and the platform then revises past dates. So a report that loaded last week's data once will drift from the platform's own screen.

We handle this with a rolling reload. Each refresh fetches a recent window again and replaces those days. As a result, late conversions land in the right place without a full reload.

Definitions cause the rest of the gaps. For example, time zones, currency and attribution settings differ between accounts. We write each rule down in the model, because a documented difference worries nobody.

What a Power BI Google Ads integration should show

A useful ad model answers these questions without a trip to the ad platform.

  • Cost by campaign, ad group and day
  • Clicks and impressions with clear ratios
  • Conversions by action type
  • Spend against the monthly budget
  • Cost per lead beside CRM outcomes
  • Search and display side by side

How we build a Power BI Google Ads integration

Four stages take you from scattered exports to one trusted marketing model.

  1. Review accounts

First we look at your ad accounts, conversion actions and any existing exports during the free assessment.

  2. Pick the route

Then we recommend a route from the table, and the written quote states it along with the pages in scope.

  3. Model and reconcile

We build the model in your own tenant and compare its totals with the ad platform for the same dates.

  4. Hand over

Finally, your marketers learn how the reload window works, so small differences no longer cause alarm.

Questions about Google Ads data in Power BI

Does Power BI have a native Google Ads connector?

We do not find one in Microsoft's Power Query connector list today. The list does include Google BigQuery, Google Analytics and Google Sheets. So the supported path usually runs through one of those, or through the Google Ads API. We check the list again at the start of each project, because it changes.

Do we need BigQuery for Power BI and Google Ads reporting?

No, but it is often the cleanest option. The transfer keeps history and handles schema changes on the Google side. However, BigQuery brings its own billing, which you pay to Google. For a small account, a scheduled export into a sheet can be enough, and we say so.

Can ad spend sit beside CRM revenue in one report?

Yes, and that is usually the point. The model joins spend to leads and deals through campaign names or tracking codes. Still, those codes must be consistent. Therefore we review naming rules early and suggest small fixes, since messy names block the join more than any tool does.

Are third-party connectors a good idea?

They can be. Several vendors sell connectors that load ad data into a database or straight into Power BI. We do not name or resell any of them. Instead, we help you weigh cost, data ownership and support, and then we build on whichever route you choose.
